Since 2007 we decided to start a primary school as a follow on from our successful nursery school in the heart of a slum area in Kisumu. To do this, we have bought a substantial piece of land large enough to accommodate both our nursery school and the new primary school.
By the end of 2010 phase 1 of our build is complete and the new site now houses 3 permanent classrooms, toilet and washing buildings, dining areas, offices, our own well for water, temporary classrooms for the nursery children as well as new playground facilities and landscaped gardens. It really does look like an oasis in the middle of the large slum area where it is situated.
In 2011 we will need to start building phase 2 of our primary school which includes building a 2 storey building with 8 classrooms which will eventually house all of our primary school children. We estimate this cost to be around £60,000 so any fund-raising ideas will be welcome to help us raise money to build this school!
***November 2011...Breaking news.........foundations for our new 8 classroom block are now underway to build at least one classroom needed for January 2012!
