We help Children

To Kenya With Love (TKWL) is a Christian charity, set up in Diss, Norfolk, by Simon Newberry who after visiting Kenya had a real heart to help those childen and families in real need. Our purpose is to provide a better future for children living in Kisumu, Kenya’s third largest city. We do this by providing an education, which otherwise they would not be able to afford, thus giving them a better chance of gaining employment and eliminating poverty.

Our aim is to give our children an excellent, well-balanced, education within the school day, giving them time to play, be with their families and to be children. TKWL has its own nursery and primary school in the slum area of Manyatta.

Most sponsored children attend our school, but some children are placed into government-run schools when it is too far for them to attend Simon Newberry School.

As well as providing an excellent academic education, we also strive to ensure that the children are taught, encouraged and provided for in all aspects of their lives, including their physical, emotional, mental and spiritual health.

As part of this, the children are provided with a snack of porridge in the morning and a nutritious meal each lunchtime. For many children, this is their only meal of the day.

Simon Newberry School is non-profit making and needs external funding each month to continue.

This is done through fundraising and sponsorship of children most in need, and this means that more than half of the pupils are sponsored. After leaving primary school, sponsored children continue to be supported through secondary or vocational training.

Our sponsors support children by providing them with the essentials needed for their education or vocational training. Sponsorship funds are used to help buy school uniforms, shoes, school books and equipment, pay various school fees and cover medical expenses when they are unwell.

We have an excellent team working within the school and surrounding areas. Chris Wheat is the missions coordinator for TKWL who oversees the staff, administrators and social workers.

TKWL has a Board of Trustees in the UK and in Kenya. The UK Trustees are: Phil and Diane Ball, Sally James Fry, Janet Newberry , Tess Molden, Trevor and Jane Campbell and Steve Kidd.

The treasurer is Chris Squires.

The Kenya Trustees are: George McOmwanda, Janet Newberry, Bob Odhaimbo, Irene Atieno Onyango, David Abdalla Ong'owo, Samuel Abara and Chris Wheat.

We would like to assure you that the data we keep is treated with the utmost care and confidentiality and we will never pass your details on to a third party. You can read TKWL’s Privacy Notice here.
